Normal life was paralysed in Cuttack on Monday following heavy downpours from early morning.  As a

precautionary measure, the district administration ordered for suspension of classes in several schools.

Cuttack ADM Raghuram Iyer said the District Educational Officer (DEO) has ordered the school authorities in the low-lying areas for closure in view of the torrential rains. However, he said all steps were being taken by the administration to restore normalcy by pumping out the stagnant rainwater.

“Pumps installed in the low-lying areas to tackle waterlogging have been made functional. More than 150 pumps have been put into service. That apart, the administration has a joint standing team with an Additional Collector and a CMC engineer as members to look into the problems,” said Iyer.

Heavy rains which lashed the Millennium City caused waterlogging at several key points posing a threat to the safety of school kids as well as commuters. low-lying places including Rajabagicha, Meria Sahi, Patapol, Khatbin Sahi, Odia Bazar, Kazi Bazar, Kali Gali and Hazari Bag lane were inundated.
