The District and Sessions court, Puri on Tuesday postponed the hearing on the bail petition of 70-year old Saradhamani Mahapatra, mother of the murdered former BJD Puri councillor Talachhu Bhagaban Mohapatra alias Guna Singhari, in the case relating to the murderous attack on law and Tourism and Culture Minister Maheswar Mohanty on February 21.
The court, while fixing the next date of hearing to March 10, asked the police to file its case diary. Saradhamani was arrested by the police late on March 1 night. She has been booked under Sections 307 and 120B of the IPC.
Her lawyer Biranchi Narayan Das told the media that the court has been kind in considering the bail application and directed the jail authorities to take appropriate care of Saradhamani in view of her age and health complications like high blood pressure and heart problem.
It may be noted that earlier, the Puri Bar Association had resolved not to plead for the accused persons as they attacked Mohanty who is a life member of the association. Sradhamani has maintained that it was a political conspiracy in which she has been falsely implicated in this case.
However, no bail application was moved by the other accused in the case. Meanwhile, the police have got some clue that another conspiracy is being made by some anti-socials to eliminate some powerful ruling BJD politicians besides the persons allegedly involved in the Guna Simhari murder case. The police on Tuesday arrested a number of criminals and recovered guns and ammunitions from their hideouts. They would be booked in separate criminal case, it was learnt.
