The Nabarangpur Zila Parishad (ZP) general body meeting on Tuesday witnessed noisy scenes as several elected representatives grilled the CDMO over the issues relating to the Jharigam malnutrition death, and malaria deaths in the district. Several ZP members cited the lapses in the healthcare delivery system in the remote areas and requested the district administration to ensure stay of the medical staff in the PHCs.
A heated debate ensued between the members and the CDMO when the latter said that out of 150 sanctioned doctors’ posts only 51 doctors are working in the district and 11 of them would go for their postgraduate studies soon. The entire healthcare system is in a shambles in the district. There are several health centres which are being managed by nurses and paramedical staffs. Several members including Congress MlA Bhujabala Majhi accused the State Government of turning a blind eye towards the ailing health services.
They urged Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi to appraise this situation to the Chief Minister and the Health Minister. The meeting was presided over by ZP president Motiram Nayak. Among others, MlAs Manohar Randhari, Bhujabala Majhi, district Collector Md Sadique Alam, vice-chairperson Nebedita Mohantyand DRDA PD Purandhar Dharua were present.
