Health workers seek regular job

The State Contractual Multipurpose Health Workers’ (Male) Association slammed the State Government for its step-motherly attitude at a Press meet here on Sunday.

The association threatened to hold a Statewide agitation on August 20 against the Government apathy, informed its president Sailendra Kumar Mohapatra.

“As many as 205 multipurpose health workers from Kendrapada were contractually appointed along with paramedical staff on June 9, 2005. While the paramedical staff, including pharmacists, radiographers and laboratory technicians, have been regularised after six years of their contract, the multi-purpose health workers are yet to be regularised,” alleged association secretary Malaya Kumar Nayak.

Notably, the State Cabinet had on February 1 decided to regularise the jobs of 40,000 contractual workers who come under the ORV Act and have completed six years of contractual service in the vacant posts. Though all criteria have been met by the workers in the district, their jobs are yet to be regularised even after seven months of the Cabinet decision, the association lamented.

Besides, the members said the health workers are getting a meager amount of Rs 5,200 per month, while the State Government employees have been entitled to salaries under the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.

“Our association has brought the problems of the contractual health workers several times to the notice of the State Government, but till date the Government has only lent deaf ears,” the association members alleged.
