Health Secretary fails to submit report to NHRC

Published on:

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had directed to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) within four weeks to the State Health Secretary in organising laparoscopic tubectomy by using bicycle pump in a camp.

But though more than eight months have been passed, the NHRC order is yet to be carried out in true letter and spirit.

The Health Secretary has not yet filed any reply to the NHRC on the issue. Acting on a petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer and rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy, the NHRC had passed the order.

The petitioner in its complaint stated that the sterilisation camp was held at Banarpal village of Angul district in the last week of November, 2014.

Stating that the practice of using bicycle pump in laparoscopic tubectomy was not new, the doctor performed the sterilisation drive.
