Health Minister shown black flags in Cuttack

There seems to be no end to public embarrassment to Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak. He was shown black flags here on Friday when he visited the Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre.

An alert city police, however, took three youths under preventive custody the moment they pulled out the flags to wave at the Minister as he alighted from his car at the cancer hospital. A handful of others gathered at the spot and shouted slogans asking the Minister to go back.

“All the three youths Niranjan Das, Debashis Mohapatra and K Baburam of the city were released under PR bonds soon after the Minister left the city,” said Mangalabag police inspector AK Swain, adding that the youths have admitted having allegiance to the Congress party.

Nayak, however, went ahead with his scheduled programme in the city inaugurating some new facilities of the cancer hospital and chaired a review meeting to discuss expansion of the hospital’s second campus.

Earlier this week, Nayak had come on the firing line in Deogarh district when some youths pelted eggs at his moving car. Two policemen, including the Deogarh Town police inspector, were suspended for this.
