The BJP on Tuesday blamed the State Government for the SUM Hospital fire tragedy that took lives of 22 patients and demanded stringent action against all responsible.

“The State BJP condoles the death of patients of the SUM Hospital due to the fire incident. The incident has proved the debilitating health service system in the State. Action should be taken all the accused responsible for the fire incident,” demanded the party.

The party too alleged that people are going to private hospitals for treatment as they don’t have trust in the Government-run hospitals. “The incident has also proved that the Health Department and the State Government are in coma.”

“The State Government has not learnt anything from the fire incident occurred in the past. By ordering a probe committee, the Government feels self-content,” Party spokesperson Sajjan Sharma alleged and demanded that the Government should create required infrastructure to ensure that such mishaps don’t recur anywhere in the State.

In the statement, Sharma too asked Health Minister to discharge his duties appropriately or quit the post.

On Monday night, a team of the party visited various hospitals to where patients had been shifted from the SUM Hospital following the fire incident.

The team members talked to some injured and inquired about their conditions from respective hospital authorities.

The team demanded that the State Government bear all expense for treatment of the injured and provide `10 lakh to each deceased’s family.

The team comprised BJP legislature Party leader KV Singh Deo, State general secretary Pritviraj Harichandan, spokesperson Dilip Mohanty, executive members

Amiya Dash and Jagannath Pradhan.
