Health Dept rushes epidemiology team for probe

The Health Department on Saturday rushed an epidemiology team to Deogarh district to examine the health condition of a Covid-19-affected person, who happens to be the first case of Delta Plus variant in the State.

The contact tracing of the patient has been carried out extensively. Their health conditions and their vaccination status would also be examined by the team.

“The infected person from Deogarh had taken the first dose of the vaccine on March 30. He got infected in the next month after coming in contact with another Covid patient. However, he was asymptomatic due to the effect of vaccination. His entire genome has been sequenced and he has fully recovered,” said Health Director Bijay Mohapatra.

“The infected person and all others, who had come in contact with him, are under observation for six weeks. The epidemiology team will examine   their health conditions. We could know about the effect of the new variant on patients from the observation,” said Mohapatra.

Delta Plus, said to be a highly contagious variant, is the latest in the long list of new mutant forms of the Delta strain of the virus which is largely been blamed for fuelling the second wave of the pandemic in the country.
