G Ramesh, a marketing agent of the HDFC bank, has allegedly taken away over Rs1 crore from residents of this Gajapati district headquarters town by giving fake gold and bonds to them.
Surprisingly, his family members have lodged a complaint with the Paralkhemundi police station that Ramesh has gone missing since Thursday. “like other days, Ramesh went to the bank at 10 in the morning but has not returned to our rented house at Ranipadmavati area,” family members said.
The matter came to light after some people lodged complaints with the bank officers that Ramesh has duped them lakhs of rupees by giving fake bonds. While one Rajendra Moharana alleged that Ramesh duped him of Rs1.5 lakh, Haraprasanna Mohanty said he was duped of Rs50, 000. Similarly, one J Tirupati Rao has appraised the bank that Ramesh has taken away Rs10.50 lakh from him.
People of the area now suspecting some bank staff are also involved in the fraud as the bank authorities did not file a complaint by Saturday afternoon. Ramesh has been collecting deposits on behalf of the bank for last one year, locals informed.
