HC squashes all petitions

Laying all speculations relating to the Shreemandir Heritage Corridor project around the Jagannath Temple in Puri to rest, the Orissa High Court on Wednesday quashed all the petitions filed in connection with the construction works undertaken by the State Government.

The court also dismissed the Public Interest Litigations (PILs) along with other intervening petitions regarding the corridor project.

The court observed that there was no relevance of hearing the petitions after the directive of the Supreme Court.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had dismissed two petitions filed alleging illegal excavation and construction activities around the Jagannath Temple.

Terming the petitions as ‘frivolous’, the apex court dismissed the petitions and imposed a fine Rs 1 lakh each on the petitioners.
