In a significant ruling, the Odisha High Court on Friday slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on Titilagarh BJD MlA Tukuni Sahu for wasting the court’s time and harassing a petitioner by not responding to a court notice in the stipulated time.

Earlier, Sahu had been fined Rs 10,000 by the court on October 30 for failing to respond to its notice. In an election petition filed by Sahu’s Congress rival contestant Surendra Singhbhoi, the HC on October 30 had asked her to file her statement by November 12. Sahu, however, filed the statements on November 14, for which Justice Biswanath Rath imposed the fine, saying the MlA’s statements shall be considered only when she pays the fine.
