HC slaps fine on BJD MlA

The Orissa High Court on Wednesday slapped a fine of `1000 on ruling BJD woman MlA Basanti Mallick of the Mohana constituency for not cooperating with the court for timely disposal of an election-related case.

Expressing displeasure for not being careful to respond to the court notices on time, Justice SC Parija fined the MlA in the case in which her election has been challenged.

Congress leader Dasarathi Gomango, who lost to Mallick by a slender margin of 115 votes, has challenged the election of Mallick alleging gross irregularities during counting of votes. While notices to this effect were issued to the MlA to file her counters to the petition in the form of an affidavit, she failed to respond to repeated court notices.
