The Orissa High Court on Friday issued notices to the State Government seeking a status report from it detailing the police investigations made so far into last month’s alleged gan grape of a school girl at Kunduli.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the State as the rape survivor and her family members have alleged that the perpetrators of the crime were in camouflage fatigues, suspecting the security personnel deployed in the area to be behind it.
Although a special team of the State Crime Branch police is investigating into the incident, a local lawyer had approached the
High Court through a PIl seeking a probe into the sensational case by independent central agencies such as CBI or NIA.
As the PIl was listed for preliminary hearing on the day, a Division Bench headed by Chief Justice
Vineet Saran issued notices to the State police arrayed as respondents in the petition and posted the matter to be heard again on November 21.
