HC rejects bail plea of Tirupati, associates

Published on:

The Odisha High Court on Thursday rejected the bail applications of businessman and Hi-Tech Group Chairman Tirupati Panigrahi and two of his associates endorsing the contention of the prosecution that investigations into the cases registered against all three are still continuing.

Justice BN Mohapatra, who had reserved the verdict after completing the hearing on the bail applications on March 20, pronounced the judgment, saying the court is not inclined to grant bail to the applicants now as they are influential persons in the

society and could tamper with the evidences.

Panigrahi and his associates were arrested in December last by the Economic Wing of the State Crime Branch police on the charges of fraudulent land deals and cheating.

The police have registered as many as five cases against all the three persons and their bail applications were taken up for considerations jointly by the High Court.
