HC refuses relief to MlA Mahakud

The Orissa High Court on Thursday refused to interfere in the ongoing police investigation against Champua Independent MlA Sanatan Mahakud in the case filed by one Kabita Mahakud, who is claiming to be the daughter-in-law of the legislator.

The MlA had approached the HC in a petition seeking to quash the FIR filed by Kabita at the Mahila police station in Bhubaneswar alleging mental and physical torture against the MlA.

Taking up the petition, Justice BK Nayak refused to interfere at this stage, saying the police have already started investigations into it. The HC, however, gave the liberty to the MlA to approach it with the same prayer after the chargesheet is filed.

Kabita claims that she had married to the MlA’s elder son Pankaj in 2012 and they have a child. But neither Pankaj nor his father accepts the claims of the woman, following which Kabita has sought a DNA test of her child and Pankaj.
