The Orissa High Court on Tuesday granted an interim protection to Bargarh BJD MlA Debesh Acharya asking police not to take any coercive action against him till further orders.
The MlA has approached the High Court seeking to quash an FIR registered against him by the Baragarh police for his alleged involvement in the attack on Union Ministers Santosh Gangwar and Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti at Bargarh.
After preliminary hearing on the plea, Justice BK Nayak directed the local police to submit the case diary in the court within four weeks and asked the prosecution not to take any action against the MlA.
BJD activists led by Acharya had attacked the Union Ministers’ convoys at Baragarh on June 24 damaging several cars by pelting stones. Both the Ministers and the accompanying former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Arjun Munda had narrowly escaped.
Registering a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC, the Bargarh police have booked several BJD men, including the MlA.
