HC permission sought for SAT closure: CM

Published on:

About 62,000 cases are now pending with the Odisha State Administrative Tribunal (SAT). The State Government has sought permission from the Orissa High Court to close down the tribunal and required steps would be taken on receipt of the HC’s permission.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik informed this in the Assembly in response to a question of BJP MlA Dilip Ray on Monday. However, the Chief Minister didn’t respond to Ray’s question as to what steps the Government has taken on the promise given to the State Bar Council, the High Court Bar Association and other lawyers’ associations to reconsider the proposal of abolishment of the SAT. The CM informed that about 36,140 original cases, 351 cases from other courts and 25,439 miscellaneous cases were pending at the SAT by February-end this year.
