While judicial activities are paralysed in some parts of the State as lawyers of several localities boycotting courts demanding permanent Benches of the Orissa High Court in their areas, the functioning of the High Court is also partially hampered as lawyers here have been abstaining from attending the courts of the Chief Justice and two other senior judges.
The High Court lawyers, who are protesting for over a month now against the decision of the Collegium in recommending the names of outside law practitioners to be elevated as judges, are boycotting the courts of Chief Justice KS Jhaveri and the courts of the Collegium members Justices Kumari Sanju Panda and SK Mishra since the courts reopened after summer vacation on June 17.
The general body of the High Court Bar Association on Wednesday unanimously decided to continue their protest till July 12. “The further course of action will be decided at a meeting on July 12,” informed bar association secretary Sanjay Das. Lawyers are, however, attending the courts of other judges, he said.
