In view of the changing scenario in the proposal for permanent Benches of the Odisha High Court, the members of Orissa High court Bar Association here on Friday decided to desist from their proposed Cuttack Bandh now.
The association also decided to continue their ongoing boycott of courts till October 30. The High Court lawyers are boycotting the courts for about a month now protesting against the State Government’s recommendation for setting up HC Benches in southern and western Odisha.
The Friday’s decision came after a steering committee meeting with various representatives of important organisations of Cuttack city. The members of Peace Committees, Puja Committees and other organisations of the city expressed their solidarity with the Cuttack lawyers and resolved to support any move of the lawyers to uphold the primacy of the city.
“It was unanimously resolved by the steering committee in the presence of various organisations of the city that stern steps would be initiated in the event.
The State Government playing with the image of the Honourable High Court being politically motivated,” said HC Bar Association secretary Janmejaya Katakia, adding that the ruling BJD would be held responsible for any attempt to belittle the image of Cuttack city.
Katakia further informed that after a general body meeting of the association on October 30 to chalk out further course of action, a delegation of the association would meet the Chief Justice of the High Court to apprise him about their stand on the contentious issue of permanent Benches of the HC.
