HC grants bail to Vinod Kumar

The Orissa High Court on Monday allowed the bail application of senior IAS officer Vinod Kumar, who was arrested last Friday after a Vigilance court sentenced him to undergo three years of rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 75,000 in a corruption case of 2010.

Justice JP Das allowed the bail plea of the officer but directed the Vigilance court in Bhubaneswar to set the conditions as it deems fit before releasing the jailed officer on bail. For a default appeal memo, the High Court last week had adjourned the case to Monday.

The court also granted bail to co-convict Purna Chandra Dash in the same case. Three others involved in it had earlier obtained bail from the High Court. The corruption case was registered in 2001 in which Kumar was charged of having misappropriated a sum of Rs 55 lakh from the Odisha Rural House Development Corporation (ORHDC) when he was its head.
