The Odisha High Court on Friday granted anticipatory bail to Chitra Athwani, friend of arrested Deccan Chronicle vice-chairman PK Iyer, in connection with a case slapped against her by the Bhubaneswar police.
Justice SK Mishra granted the advance bail to Athwani, who was earlier summoned twice by the police to record her statements. The Bhubaneswar police had also gone to Athwani’s residence in Darbhanga district of Bihar to question her. The HC had earlier granted relief to Athwani by directing the police not to arrest her till the hearing of anticipatory bail plea was over.
Iyer, who was wanted by the CBI in connection with a banking fraud case, was staying in Hotel Trident in Bhubaneswar in a room booked in the name of Athwani.
