HC extends relief to Cong MlA, BJP chief

Published on:

The Orissa High Court on Tuesday extended the interim relief it had granted to Paralakhemundi Congress MlA K Surya Rao to December 16 and restrained the police from arresting him in connection with a case pending against Rao for his alleged role in the suicide of four siblings of Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district in August this year.

In a similar order, the High Court also extended its interim protection to Gajapati district BJP president GV Ravana and posted the hearings of the anticipatory bail applications of both Ravana and Rao to December 16. The court had granted the relief to both these leaders in August.

Basing on the names figuring in the suicide notes retrieved from one of the deceased siblings, the Crime Branch police investigating into the case had summoned nine persons in this connection, including the Congress MlA, the BJP leader and a local BJD councillor for questioning.
