The Orissa High Court on Wednesday turned down the bail application of notorious gangster Raja Acharya in a kidnapping and extortion case of 2010. Acharya, who is facing as many as 40 cases, had, however, been granted bail by the Supreme Court earlier this year in the sensational case of murder of judo coach Biranchi Das in Bhubaneswar. Justice JP Das of the High Court on the day refused to grant bail to the gangster, who had also been denied bail in the same case by a district court last month. Raja has been booked by the Commissinerate police on charges of extortion and kidnapping of an employee of a Bhubaneswar-based motor company.
