HC denies bail to MlA Biswal

Published on:

The Orissa High Court on Friday rejected a bail application of senior BJD MlA Pravat Ranjan Biswal, who was arrested by the CBI in September this year for his alleged involvement in multi-crore Seashore chit fund scam.

The 50-year-old Cuttack-Choudwar MlA, who has been hospitalised ever since his arrest, had approached the High Court seeking bail on health grounds. His bail pleas had earlier been rejected by the CBI court and Khurda district court.

Rejecting the bail application, Justice Biswanath Rath of the High Court, however, asked the CBI to complete the investigations in the relevant case within two months and submit charge-sheet as soon as possible.

The High Court also granted liberty to the MlA to move fresh applications for regular bail in the trial court after the charge-sheet is submitted against him.

Biswal is undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College Hospital here.
