Demanding a permanent Bench of the High Court in the district, Kalahandi Bar Association members and the all-party joint action committee on Wednesday decided to boycott the urban local body (UlB) elections scheduled to be held on November 22.

This was informed by Kalahandi Bar Association president Daitari Pradhan after holding discussions with the association members and representatives of different political parties and various organisations of the district.

Meanwhile, members of the bar association, action committee and various organisations continued their dharna in front of the Collector’s office in support of their demand. The lawyers are also continuing their strike every Monday.

“We will intensify our movement to get our demands fulfilled,” said Pradhan, adding, “We will not only boycott the UlB elections but will also take steps to stop the nomination process scheduled between October 28 and November 1.” Earlier, the lawyers and joint action committee had called a Kalahandi Bandh in support of their demand.
