The central action committee (CAC), a body of the lawyers western Odisha spearheading a campaign for establishment of permanent bench of Orissa High Court in the region, has decided to hold dharana in New Delhi to press its demands.
“Meeting different dignitaries including the Prime Minister apart, the members of the CAC will also sit in dharna at Jantar Mantar on November 28 to highlight the demand of the bench,” said Niranjan Tripathy, a senior member of the CAC.
On the basis of the report of the Joshobant Singh Commission and the clear cut recommendation of the State Government for establishing HC bench in western Odisha, the CAC will put forth the demand in the national capital.
About 500 lawyers from all over western Odisha, apart from common people, NGO activists, political leaders, elected representatives of all political parties staying in Delhi, will take part in the dharna to build up pressure on the Government at Centre.
Following a 42- day long agitation in Sambalpur in 2013, the Chief Minister had written to the Central Government for establishing the HC bench in the region. The then Union law Minister Kapil Sibbal also had accepted the proposal, considering its genuineness.
The State Government also had sent a reminder for the bench o the Centre. “But there is no satisfactory headway,” the CAC members lamented.
During this time, members of the CAC will also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union law Minister and other officials of the law Department to expedite the process.
