The overwhelming support from different political parties to the demand for a High Court Bench in western Odisha at Sambalpur, Balangir, Bargarh and Deogarh was also echoed in Rourkela on Tuesday.

At an all-party meeting called by the Rourkela Bar Association on Tuesday, almost all political parties declared their support to the western Odisha bandh call.

It was unanimously decided to extend the bandh from ill August 31 stalling works in all Government offices here.

While the Congress, the BJP, the Aam Aadmi Party and the Kosal Kranti Dal said they would not to participate in forthcoming urban local body elections, the leaders of the BJD, the CPI and the CPI(M) said they will reveal their standpoint by Wednesday after consulting their party bosses.

If the no work is transacted in the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) office till August 31 then it would ultimately lead to no nominations filed between August 21 and 24.

But from ADM office source it was revealed that on the first day of filing of nominations on Tuesday, a total of 48 nomination forms were sold and only one independent candidate submitted nomination paper for Ward-4.

According to the decision of the all-party meeting, the person who filed the nomination paper would be requested to withdraw it in the greater interests of western Odisha.
