The Orissa High Court has directed the State Government to pay a compensation of Rs 8.25 lakh to Abanti Mallick of Bagula village under Jagatsinghpur district’s Biridi block, whose wife Jhulana Mallick had been killed by one Aditya Sahoo of Jajpur district in June 2016.
Abanti had filed a petition in the High Court seeking compensation for losing his wife from the Government while the police had failed to nab the culprit. Adjudicating the case, the High Court has directed the Government to provide Rs 8.25 lakh to kin of the deceased within three months.
On Wednesday, Abanti accompanied by Dalit leader Shankar Das handed over the order copy to the district Collector and requested him to take steps for early release of the compensation.
