HC adjourns hearing: Beer stalemate continues

Published on:

Hearing on the batch of petitions challenging the State Government’s decision to reduce the offer price of beer companies remained inconclusive in the Odisha High Court on Wednesday and the matter was adjourned to be adjudicated again on Thursday. While the petitioners on the day argued that the Government does not have any legal sanction to frame such policies to fix the offer prices arbitrarily, the Government counsels on the other hand maintained that the Government has taken the decision keeping the interest of consumers in mind. The stalemate between the beer companies and the Government over the issue has snowballed into a major crisis reporting acute shortage of the beverage in the market. Refusing to renew the MoU with the Odisha State Beverages Corporation (OSBC) over the reduction of offer price, the beer companies have stopped supplying their products.
