The Orissa High Court on Friday again adjourned the hearings of the writ petitions pertaining to the lawyer-police standoff to Monday.
Soon after, the High Court Bar Association also extended its cease-work stir to Monday; and the general body of the association resolved to meet again on Monday afternoon to chalk out its further course of action.
The HC Bar Association also held a discussion on the recent invitation by State DGP Dr RP Sharma to the executive members of all bar associations for a dialogue to end the two-month-old standoff.
“We are ready to hold discussions with the DGP, but it should be held at a neutral venue instead of their conference hall,” said HC Bar Association president Srikant Naik.
The general body of the association, however, deferred a discussion on the requisition made by some 180 members of the association giving a six-point suggestion and requesting the HC Bar Association to resume court works in the larger interests of all stakeholders.
As reported earlier, a section of lawyers are not interested to continue the strike further. Earlier on the day, a Division Bench headed by Chief Justice KS Jhaveri ordered to keep the report submitted by Justice CR Dash in a sealed cover.
Under the supervision of Justice Dash, the police investigations into the four criminal cases arising out of the police-lawyer faceoff of August 28 are being carried out.
IGP Arun Bothra of the State Crime Branch police is investigating the cases following a direction of the Supreme Court.
