Even as the Orissa High Court is adjudicating a petition seeking to stay the January 22 by elections to fill up the vacant post of Cuttack Mayor, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) is all set to hold the by poll as per the schedule fixed by the State Election Commission (SEC).
The hearing on the petition filed by one Kanaklata Naik, a resident of Ward-21, remained inconclusive on Wednesday following which Justice BK Nayak adjourned the part-heard matter to be adjudicated again on Thursday. The arguments of both, petitioner’s counsel and SEC counsel remained inconclusive on the day.
Meanwhile, in the absence of any interim order from the HC, the Director of Municipal Administration, who is the election officer for the post, is going ahead with preparations for the Friday’s by-poll. All the corporators of the city have been intimated to take part in the election, informed CMC Commissioner Gyana Das.
