Havildars' and Constables' cease-work from tomorrow

Published on:

Talks between the State Government and the Odisha Havildar, Sepoy and Constable Confederation ended inconclusively on Wednesday, setting the stage for a strike by these police personnel. Though a delegation of the confederation met Home Secretary Asit Tripathy and Director General of Police (DGP) KB Singh to discuss about fulfilment of its six-point charter of demands, the talks failed to reach any consensus.

The cops did their duties by wearing black badges as mark of protest on Wednesday.

“The confederation had placed its six-point charter of demands before the State Government in 2015. As per our earlier decision, we will begin our cease-work agitation from September 23 as the meeting failed,” said a member of the confederation who was part of the delegation which met the Home Secretary and the DGP.

The demands of the confederation include a hike in the grade pay, food allowance for its members at par with the provision in the Central police forces, appointment of Grade-IV employees and abolition of contractual appointments.
