CISF jawans lathicharge public, mediapersons

The hartal call given by the Congress demanding Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s resignation over the MB Shah Commission’s mining scam revelation evoked good response here on Tuesday.

The operations at the IFFCO, PPl, IOCl plants, Cargil India and Goa Carbon plants were fully affected.

Paradip Town Congress president Ranjan Kumar Das, Youth Congress president Manoj Kumar Behera and PCC member Pramod Kishor Jena led the hartal at different locations in the port town. While train services were disrupted, buses and all other passenger vehicles remained off the roads. Similarly, banks, Government offices, shops and other business establishments were closed,

But the port operations continued as usual as the activists were not allowed into the prohibited zone. The Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) lathicharged some Congress activists, general public and mediapersons at the PPT administrative building while the hartal activists were trying to enter the building through its back gate. The jawans also used some slangs at the crowd.

Annoyed over the attack, Town Congress president Ranjan Das and some others lodged complaints against the CISF jawans, including Inspector-in-Charge Sunil Dutt.
