Hariprasad to take stock of Odisha soon

New AICC-appointed in-charge of Odisha Congress BK Hariprasad will visit here soon to hold talks with State party leaders to firm up organisational strategy with an aim to bring the party to power in the 2014 elections.

He is confident that the Congress, which lost the last three consecutive elections to the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), will bounce back to power this time as, according to him, the people of the State are disenchanted with the BJD regime and turning towards the Congress.

Hariprasad told an Odia TV channel in New Delhi on Monday that there are myriad issues against the BJD Government, for which the Congress would be voted to power in the next elections.

To a question, he said the recent change of State party leadership with Jayadev Jena as the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president would not send any adverse message among people since Jena is an old horse of the party having rich experiences in the party organisation and Government as he had also worked as PCC chief and was a Minister in the past.

Hariprasad said that during his first visit to the State he would hold discussions with the PCC and Congress legislature Party (ClP) members with a view to strengthen the party organisation further ahead of the general elections.

There is no dissidence in the State party, he asserted, saying that there might be “differences of opinion” among leaders as the Congress is a very old party. All efforts would be made to ensure that the party is united and strong enough to fight the general elections, he added.

Hariprasad, who is from Karnataka, said it would not be a problem for him to devote time for all the three States of Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh for which he is the party in-charge as previously too he has been put in charge for as many States.
