A woman Maoist, Suna alias Jeevani Wadeka, surrendered before SW Range DIG S Shyni and Koraput district Superintendent of Police Charan Singh Meena here on Tuesday.
Shyni said Suna was functioning as a bodyguard of Commander of 3rd CRC of CPI (Maoist) Chelluri Narayan Rao alias Suresh. Suna is a resident of Podapadar under Narayanpatna block in the district.
She was inducted into the organisation in 2011 as a member of Sanskrutika Gana Natya Mandali which is a cultural troupe of the Maoists .She was then 12 years old, Shyni said.
She was given training to handle arms like 303 rifles after which she had worked in different areas of the district and was involved in many violent incidents. Suna surrendered following her dejection over the way the Maoists functioned and indulged in anti-social activities which had resulted in killing of people of her own community.
As the State Government had announced a reward of Rs1 lakh on her head, she would be getting the amount for her surrender. She will be rehabilitated as per the surrender policy of the State Government, said Shyni.
