A hardcore woman Maoist Rame Madkami, who had carried Rs 4 lakh cash reward on her head, surrendered before the Koraput police on Wednesday. Madkami, who had joined the Maoist-fold seven years ago, worked as an Area Committee Member (ACM) in the group of dreaded Maoist leader Akkiraju Haragopal alias Srinivas alias Ramakrishana She has 10 cases pending against her at various police stations in Koraput and Malkangiri.
Koraput SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo hailed the decision of the woman Maoist to shun violence and join the mainstream. Madkami said she got disillusioned with behaviour of senior Maoist leaders over through their partiality towards Telugu cadres over other local tribal cadres. The tribal cadres are consistently meted out step-motherly treatment, are being denied promotion in the party and are just being used as foot soldiers, who will stay at frontline during exchange of fire with police while the big cadres are escaping from spot under their cover, as had happened in many instances, she said.
