Notorious, most wanted criminal Bijaya alias Mitu Moharana was injured in a shootout with the police in the wee hours ofThursday. Two policemen also received minor injuries in the incident.
Police sources said a police team received information that Mitu was moving in Burupada, Marudi, Gobindapur area with one of his associates on a motorcycle. Then the police chased them and while intercepting them between village Burupada and Marudi, the accused all of a sudden started firing at the police team.
In order to protect themselves and in exercising the right to self defence the police team also resorted to firing. As a result Mitu received bullet injuries on his left knee and the second accused Mrutyunjaya Rout alias Raka managed to escape taking the advantage of darkness. Mitu was rushed to the Hinjili CHC and later shifted to MKCG Medical College Hospital here.
The Seragada PS IIC received minor injuries on his right elbow and Constable Subala Pradhan also received minor injuries on his right thigh. A country made gun, three live bullets and two mobile phones were recovered from Mitu’s possession.
Earlier , a team comprising Seragada IIC Biswaranjan Nayak ,constable Subala Pradhan( Hinjili), Basanta Upadhaya (Hinjili), Aruna Behera (HQ) to apprehend dreaded anti-social Mitu who was wanted in series of heinous cases including Kurula murder case, attempt to murder , bombing , extortion and illegal arms cases.
