Harassed city woman decries police inaction

Upset over the police inaction in ensuring justice to her and her children, Manjulata Mohanty (41), mother of two grown up sons and two daughters residing here at plot number 823, Fishery lane, laxmisagar has warned that the Commissionerate police will be held responsible if anything happens to her and her children.

According to Manjulata, she got married to Abhimanyu Mohanty (54), a resident of plot number 823, Fishery lane, Budheswari Colony 27 years ago.

“At the time of marriage, I did not get any dowry with me. My husband, who happens to be a drunkard, at the behest of his three younger brothers Akshay Mohanty, a railway employee, Ashok Mohanty, a Central Government servant, and Ajit Mohanty, a contractor, started torturing me, mentally and physically since my marriage and started demanding dowry. Now, they are torturing me and my children Alok (22), Dipak (21), Reeta (25) and Anita (24) and threatening us to quit the house (where we live),” said Manjulata in her complaint.

Manjulata said, “On March 16, my husband along with his brothers beat us black and blue and threatened of dire consequences if we do not leave the house. Following this, I lodged a complaint at the laxmisagar police station and later at the Mahila police station seeking justice.”

“But the police are yet to take up the matter seriously forcing us to suspect the dubious role of the police,” rued Manjulata.

“Since they threaten to rape my daughter and eliminate us, the police should arrest them immediately, besides providing security to us,” pleaded Manjulata. She too demanded strong legal action against the police officials of the laxmisagar and Mahila police stations for not taking appropriate steps to ensure justice to her and her children.
