Alekha Behera of Kanheipur village under Ostapur panchayat of Sadar police station on Tuesday late night consumed poison and died at the SCB Medical College Hospital on Wednesday while undergoing treatment.

He had obtained Rs60,000 as loan from Union Bank of India and Bank of India, Kendrapada, for agriculture purpose. But he failed to repay the loan amount. On the other hand, the bank authorities allegedly demanded her husband to repay the loan and interest by serving notices and reminders to him.

Some locals on Thursday by carrying the dead body came to the district collectorate office and staged a dharana demanding Rs15 lakh as compensation to the deceased farmer’s family. Kendrapada Executive Magistrate-cum-the Tehsildar Pravas Behura discussed with the agitators. The locals later called off their stir after assurance by the district administration.
