A team of BDA, BMC and R and B officials carried out an eviction drive on road side from Hanspal Square to Banamalipur road under Balianta police limits on Tuesday.
The unauthorised constructions over road for widening of the river embankment were demolished. They included 48 AC shed shops, 38 tin shed shops, eight AC shed hotels / dhabas, Mahavir Temple (part of Sri Nikunja Bihari Temple at Balianta Bazar), 35 thatched / polythene shops, eight iron stair cases and approximately 50 meter of boundary wall.
The eviction drive was led without any untoward incident by Enforcement Officer BDA Pramod Kumar Patro, liaison Officer BDA Subhransu Sekhar Mohanty, Assistant Engineer Rajendra Behera, ACP Biswanath Mishra, Balianta IIC PK Pattnaik and Mancheswar IIC Pramod Kumar Nayak. A platoon of OSAP force and one section women force were deployed to maintain law and order.
