The mutilated body of a youth with hands tied and legs severed was found on the railway tracks near the Palaspalli area under the Airfield police station on Saturday morning raising suspicion of foul play.

The blood-stained body was spotted by locals on the railway tracks. The deceased was identified as Pravat Nayak.

Prima facie, it was revealed that Nayak hailing from Cuttack and working as a contractual worker at the Bhubaneswar Municiapl Corporation (BMC) was staying at his in-laws’ house in the Poonama Gate area for last four years, a few meters from the site where his body was found.

However, his in-laws along with his wife have fled from the house by locking it raising suspicion of foul play.

Family members of Pravat alleged that he was murdered and they suspected involvement of his in-laws in the killing.

“He was well-behaved and sobre.  He was staying with his in-laws for last three-four years. He had no enmity with anybody. He has been murdered by his in-laws,” said deceased’s mother Sabita Nayak.

Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel recovered the body and sent it for postmortem and started investigation.
