Odias staying in Guwahati celebrated the Utkal Divas on April 1. The Kalinga Sanskritika Sansada (KSS), Guwahati and the Lord Jagannath Temple Trust, Guwahati, had organized the event.
The speakers recalled the sacrifice made by the great heroes of Odisha who played a pivotal role in the formation of a separate province of Odisha. Eminent artists of repute from Odisha and Assam performed folk and classical dance on the occasion.
The KSS has been taking an initiative to construct Lord Jagannath Temple at Guwahati. The members expressed disappointment that the KSS has given several representations to the Chief Minister of Odisha to construct an Odisha Bhawan at Guwahati but in vain. Similarly, they also urged the State Government to set up an Odia school in Guwahati.
