Governor SC Jamir on Friday exhorted a gathering of technologists, researchers and academicians at the CV Raman Engineering College here to strike the right balance between the material and the moral.Dr Jamir said knowledge and innovation have contributed to new products, most of which are qualitatively good and constant research has helped the people to enhance quality.

“Unless there is qualitative improvement in societal standards of ethics and morality, material quality enhance may not yield the desired results,” said the Governor while inaugurating a State-level quality workshop at the college. He said ensuring quality of a product enhances quality of life and it relates to the material, but how that product enhances quality of life and standard of life is a different matter. Citing an example, Dr Jamir questioned ‘What is use of inventing a qualitatively good pen if people do not know how to writeIJ

The Governor said human civilisation is good with quality assured scientific and technological knowledge and products, but it is much better off with qualitative improvement in morals and values. Civilisation devoid of morality would always have the tendency of making technology the instruments of destruction, he concluded.

National Board of Accreditation (NBA) Member Secretary Dr Anil Kumar Nassa broadly outlined NBA’s aims and objections. Among others, Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) Vice-Chancellor Dr SS Patnaik, CV Raman Group of Institutions chairman SK Rout and BPUT Registrar Prof M Altaf Khan were present.
