Governor SC Jamir on Monday urged that health services should be accessible and affordable to all needy persons. He was speaking at the first foundation day celebration of AIIMS here.

“The tag of AIIMS automatically raises expectation. It is for all the stakeholders of AIIMS here to realise and act accordingly so that it is of great benefit to the people of the State,” said Dr Jamir.

Jamir said, “Odisha requires state-of-the-art health care facilities in the field of specialty and super specialty disciplines. AIIMS, Bhubaneswar is conceived and supposed to provide the services in all possible fields of medicine at tertiary level and meet the demands of modern health care services.”

“With Odisha’s health indicators like maternal mortality and infant mortality indicating urgent attention, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar has a specific role to play in bridging the gap to accessibility of different health programmes to invest in capacity building in existing public health institutions and creating awareness on health education across the State,” he said and urged the students to be conscious of the faith and trust reposed on them by people as doctors.
