Gurupriya Bridge: CRRI to conduct safety check

Published on:

The Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), New Delhi would carry out a safety check of the Gurupriya Bridge in Malkangiri before it is inaugurated by the Chief Minister in June.

The Roads and Building (R and B) Chief Engineer has written a letter to the CRRI in the connection. Accordingly, a team from the CRRI would arrive in the State and carry out safety check of the much-delayed bridge.

During the team’s visit to the extremist-infested Malkangiri district, the BSF would provide security, said sources.

Notably, the bridge constructed by Kolkota-based Royal Infra is nearly complete with a few finishing touches left.

A section of the bridge, which after completion is expected to be a lifeline for the people of the cutoff region in Malkangiri collapsed on July 25, 2017 leading to a hue and cry.

It was alleged that inferior quality work was being carried out by the executing agency. A month ago, a pile of the bridge had tilted, which triggered resentment among the locals.
