Panic prevailed at the Senior Basic Government School at Kusiapala village under Kendrapada Sadar police station on Wednesday afternoon as a drunken hooligan wielding a revolver detained teachers and kept up shouting threats.
In fear, students left the school though a narrow lane.
According to Headmistress Saraswati Kundu, one Bhamara Patra of neighboring Khasapadia village entered the school in an inebriated condition during closing prayer while his two associates stood at the school gate.
Bhamara asked teacher Akhaya Kumar Pothal to come near him. As Pothal did not listen to him, Bhamara brought out a revolver from his pant pocket and brandished it at him and threatened to kill him.
Pothal, a ZPT, soon shouted for help. When other teachers rushed to him, Bhamara too showed the revolver to them.
Being informed, Derabish ABEO Akhaya Swain and a police team led by Kendrapada Sadar PS IIC Biranchi Bag went to the school. locals demanded that police arrest the accused soon.
ABEO asked the Headmistress and the teacher to lodge separate FIRs against Bhamara.
IIC Bag said the police have taken steps to nab the hooligan though no FIR had been lodged.
Meanwhile, parents said they are in panic and feeling insecure about their wards. They said they wouldn’t send their children to the school until Bhamara is arrested.
School authorities in consultation with villagers have decided to close the school on Thursday.
