The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) organised a mega guardians’ meet here on Sunday with over 50,000 guardians of the institute’s tribal students attending the event.
The tribals represented 62 tribes and 13 primitive tribal communities from all corners of the State as well as from Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Assam. The guardians expressed their gratitude to KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta for securing the future of their children through the KISS, which provides education, vocational training along with food, accommodation and other basic necessities free of cost to 20,000 tribal children from the KG to PG level.
At the same time, they expressed their resentment that such a large institute in world is managed by only one person, Dr Samanta, while there is no support from both the State and Central Governments to it.
A guardian committee is being formed to support the KISS and its students and to draw the Government’s attention to the different problems of the institute.
Dr Samanta advised them that only education can ensure a dignified life to them as the traditional way of living is now impossible due to lack of natural resources.Fifty guardians of KISS students, who are high achievers, were felicitated on the occasion.
