GRP produces Subhash at Puri SDJM Court

The Puri Government Railway Police (GRP) on Tuesdayproduced Subhash Ramachandran, the sole accused in the last year’s empty train burning incident at the Puri railway station, at the Puri Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court.

Sources said the GRP officials also submitted the chargeseet against Ramachandran at the court.

On April 26, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had ruled out any terror angle behind the train burning case. The NIA had also submitted its closure report in its special court here and said Ramachandran is not a terrorist.

The NIA said the accused was suffering from a psychological disorder and wanted to be famous by misleading police. The NIA had appealed to the special court to transfer the case back to Puri.

On November 12, 2015, Puri GRP officials had arrested Ramachandran for allegedly setting on fire five coaches of three empty trains. A native of Tamil Nadu, Ramachandran created a flutter by linking the incident to five terrorists in Mumbai and said they were also behind the train arsons in Gaya, Haridwar and Kharagpur. Considering the interstate ramification of the case, the State police had recommended a NIA probe.

On December 10, the train burning case was shifted from thr Puri court to the NIA’s special court at the Khordha District Sessions court here.

On December 3, the NIA had taken over the investigation after State police found suspected terror link behind the sabotage.
