The Bhadrak district administration imposed Section 144 CrPC around a club at Bedpur village under the Dhamnagar police limits on Tuesday following a violent clash between two groups during preparations for Ganesh Chaturthi celebration.
The restrictions will remain in force till September 2 to bring the situation under control.
According to reports, a few youths belonging to one group near Bedpur village had visited the Bajpayee Club to set up a puja pandal for Ganesh Chaturthi celebration. Opposing it, members of the club had an altercation with the youths, following which the two groups faced off on Tuesday evening. After the clash turned violent, police and the Tehsildar rushed to the site to pacify the groups.
However, in the presence of police, the two groups continued their fights. Taking cognisance of the situation, the Tehsildar informed the Sub-Collector, who ordered Section 144 around the club to prevent any untoward incident on Ganesh Puja.
