The BJB Autonomous College campus here turned a battlefield on Monday following a group clash between two rival student groups.
Sources said a first year undergraduate student had been assaulted by a self-financing course student on Sunday which was opposed by girl students; and a case was filed at the Badagada police station regarding the incident, but no action was taken.
Following the attack, on Monday, there was a heated exchange of words between the two groups which later turned violent with self-financing students attacking the rival group with sticks and tube light holdings. The incident further turned hostile after some students passed comments at some girl students of the rival student group.
Police rushed to the campus and took the situation under control. A platoon of armed police force was deployed at the campus to avoid any further untoward incident.
Following the incident, classes were suspended. The college authorities in coordination with the police were keeping a strict vigil on the campus and movement of students.
